What each firm offers, taken from its own website.
Every firm starts from public business data. We keep those in Lancashire that are open, have at least one Google review and do removals work, and we merge duplicates. Rubbish removal, self-storage-only and unrelated firms that share the word "removals" are left out.
We then read each firm's own website and record only what it states: house removals, packing, storage, office moves, long-distance and international moves, man and van, piano moving, clearances, dismantling furniture, home surveys, goods-in-transit insurance and British Association of Removers membership. Where a site says nothing, the listing shows no answer rather than a guess.
Each listing is also looked up on DVSA's published register of goods vehicle operator licences, by the licence or company number on the firm's website, by its name at its own postcode, or by its name and area. The listing shows the licence we found and the date we checked. Vans of 3.5 tonnes or less need no operator licence, so no match is not a mark against a firm.
Owners can claim a listing to correct details or add photos. A person checks every claim. Published by Digimill.
A full house move needs a removals firm with its own crew and vehicles. A man and van service suits a flat, a student move or a few big items. Some firms also pack for you, take furniture apart and rebuild it, store your things between homes, or move pianos, offices and people abroad. Each listing here shows which of these the firm says it offers, so start with the ones that match your move and ask two or three of them for a written quote.
A firm that moves your belongings in a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes needs a goods vehicle operator licence from the Traffic Commissioners, and for other people's goods it must be a standard licence, not a restricted one. Vans of 3.5 tonnes or less need no licence for work in the UK. You can look up any operator by name, address or licence number on GOV.UK's Find lorry or bus operators service. Each listing in this guide shows whether we matched the firm on DVSA's published register, and the date we checked.
What a firm tells you about itself or its service, and that you rely on, becomes part of the contract, and the law says it must do the job with reasonable care and skill. So get the quote, the date and what is included in writing. Ask what insurance covers your belongings while they are on the move, what it leaves out, and whether you need to pack anything yourself for the cover to apply.
Do not assume you can cancel within 14 days. The rules that give a 14-day cancellation period for services booked online, by phone or at home do not apply to the transport of goods when the contract is for a specific date. Your rights depend on the firm's own terms, so read them before you pay a deposit.
If the van needs to park where there are restrictions, the council can help. Lancashire County Council suspends parking bays for work that needs full access, applied for online at least eight working days ahead. Blackburn with Darwen Council lists domestic removals as a reason for a parking dispensation or suspension. Blackpool Council offers a temporary parking dispensation. Ask your removal firm whether it will arrange this.
Complain to the firm first, in writing. Some removal firms belong to a trade body whose members can use the Removals Industry Ombudsman Scheme, an approved dispute service that costs the customer nothing. Ask a firm before you book whether it belongs to one, and check its name on the scheme's or the trade body's own website. After the move, update the address on your driving licence and vehicle log book with DVLA, and tell the council for your old and new address about council tax.

No. A basic listing is free and stays free. Firms can pay for a featured position, and featured places are marked as such.
No. Where a firm says on its own website that it belongs to the British Association of Removers, the listing shows that, but we have not checked it with the association. Ask the firm, and check on the association's own website.
Anyone who carries other people's goods in a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes needs a goods vehicle operator licence. We look each firm up on DVSA's published register by the licence or company number on its website, by its name and postcode, or by its name and area, and show what we found with the date. Vans of 3.5 tonnes or less need no licence, so a firm we did not match is not unlicensed.
